What a great start to the day: one child stood up and looked at our castle display and said, “Wow”

The day before we had been finding out what we already knew about castles and then looked at and talked about lots of photographs of castles on our interactive whiteboard, and here they were next day on our wall.

We also had great fun exploring a range of emotions and the children were fantastic at showing us their sad, happy, scared, worried and puzzled expressions on their faces.

This was all great preparation for our visitors from The Derngate Theatre, later that morning. We were very fortunate to have a chance to imagine what it might be like to be a soldier, keeping guard on the ramparts of a castle. We explored how they might feel at different times of the day and in different types of weather.

The children were amazing at following commands such as: Attention, where they all saluted and replied: “Yes sir” with great vigour. It works brilliantly in class now, when their attention is needed.
